The Flutewise Project: Inspiring the Next Generation
Sunday 17th August 14:00, Workshop 2
Liz Goodwin’s musical journey started in the classroom, where she taught and was responsible for music. After her children were born, she restarted her flute studies and soon became a peripatetic flute teacher, juggling over 150 pupils a week!
In 1988, Liz founded Flutewise with a passion for inspiring young players. She ran a vibrant quarterly magazine and organised more than 600 events, reaching over 50,000 budding musicians. Many of the children who were part of Flutewise back then are now professional flutists, some of whom are joining us for this very event! Countless professional players have also shared their expertise, giving back to the next generation of flute players. Over the years, these events have evolved to reflect the changing times, and Liz is excited to see how this new project will continue to adapt.
Above all, Liz’s mission has always been to get as many people as possible playing an instrument, especially the flute. She’s the author of The Fife Book, a popular resource that’s helped teachers worldwide introduce children to the joys of flute playing.
